First up they come very well packaged and protected. It's really nice that Sony have also added two very sturdy wall mounted brackets for the surround speakers that you can also turn and position the speaker to your desired position when setting up on the wall if needed. Great.
Setup was very straight forward too. I didn’t have to fight with settings for hours to get it sounding right. Once I got the system positioned and tuned using the Bravia connect app, it just worked. After that, it adjusts levels to all speakers and sub/s to match my room and where the speakers were sitting. Very easy for people who just don't like tweaking the settings manually and let the Sony app do all the hard work for you.
I've been using the Sony BRAVIA theatre rear 9 surround speakers for a while now, and honestly, they surprised me in the best way. I wasn’t expecting the rear channels to feel this “present,” but once I set them up and started playing movies with proper surround mixes, the whole soundstage stopped feeling like it was trapped in the front of the room. There’s a noticeable clarity to the details—things like small sound cues and subtle ambient layers come through more distinctly. It makes action scenes feel more dimensional, especially in chase scenes or anything with surround panning, where the sounds move around you instead of just staying fixed in place.
One more thing: these speakers feel like they scale well with different content. I’m not only using them for blockbuster movies. Even for TV shows and games, the rear channels add a lot of depth. The sound feels more “wrapped” around the space, and that makes everything less flat.
Overall, I’d call the Sony BRAVIA theatre rear 9 surround speakers a really solid upgrade to use with the Sony Theatre Trio if you care about immersion and want the rear channels to actually matter. They deliver a believable surround experience, keep things balanced, and make movies (and games) feel more like you’re in the scene rather than just listening to it. If you’re planning building out a theatre-style setup and want rear speakers that sound like part of the system-not an afterthought—these are absolutely worth getting.
